Long Term Resident Visa (LTR) is a new visa program that started on September 1st 2022. Under this program certain categories of foreign nationals - program focuses on affluent individuals and experts can receive 10-year visa, as well as a number of bonuses, including decreased personal tax rates, fast-track service at the international airports and permission to work in Thailand.
Eligibility
The visa aims at 4 main target groups:
- Wealthy global citizens.
- At least $1,000,000 in assets
- Minimum investment of $500,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property
- Personal income at least $80,000 per year for the past 2 years
- Wealthy retirees
- Personal income of at least $80,000/year at the time of application
- In case of personal income below $80,000/year but no less than $40,000/year, applicants must invest at least $250,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property
- Work-from-Thailand professionals
- Personal income of a minimum of $80,000 per year in the past two years
- In case of personal income below $ 80,000 per year but no less than $40,000 peer year in the past two years, applicants must have a Master’s degree or above or own intellectual property or receive Series A funding
- Public company on a stock exchange or private company in operation for at least three years with combined revenue at least USD 150 million in the last three years
- At least 5 years of work experience in the relevant fields of the current employment over the past 10 years
- Highly-skilled professionals
- Personal income of a minimum of $80,000 / year in the past two years
- In case of personal income below $80,000/year but no less than $40,000/year in the past two years or before retirement, applicants must have a Master’s degree or above in science and technology or special expertise relevant to the job assignment in Thailand
- No minimum personal income for professionals working for Thai government agencies
- Higher education institution, research institution, specialized training institution, or Thai government agency
- At least 5 years of work experience in the targeted industries except for applicants with a PhD or above in the relevant fields of the targeted industries or applicants working for Thai government agencies
- Business in one of the targeted industries:
- Next-generation automotive industry
- Smart electronics industry
- Affluent tourism industry
- Agricultural and biotechnology industry
- High value-added food processing
- Automation and robotics industry
- Aviation industry
- Biofuels and biochemicals industry
- Digital industry
- Medical industry
- Defense industry
- Human resource development, research and development for targeted industries
- Industries that facilitate the Circular Economy directly and significantly e.g. the production of energy-from-waste, water resources management etc.
- Other targeted industries in accordance with the 20-year National Strategic Plan as approved by the Board of the National Competitiveness Enhancement Policy for Targeted Industries Policies
Apart from these categories by themselves, the visa is also available for spouses and dependents (children under 20 years old) of the main applicant (maximum 4 dependents per one LTR visa application)
Benefits
Holder of LTR visas will received the following privileges:
- 10 years renewable visa permission to stay in Thailand (it’s initially granted for 5 years, and can be extended for 5 more if the qualifications are upheld).
- Immigration and work permit facilitation services at One Stop Service Center for Visa and Work Permit
- 90-day report extended to 1-year report; exemption of re-entry permit

- 17% Personal income tax for Highly-skilled professionals
